New Delhi, Oct 15 (NationPress) Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah is set to officially launch a two-day conference titled ‘Extradition of Fugitives: Challenges and Strategies’ in New Delhi on Thursday, October 16, as announced by the government on Wednesday.

This significant event is organized by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Key officials from various central and state police agencies will be in attendance to engage in discussions aimed at enhancing international police collaboration for tracking and repatriating fugitives sought in India.

Representatives from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), along with other relevant stakeholders, will also be present.

The conference will delve into a variety of subjects, including the efficient utilization of formal and informal channels for global cooperation, employing technology to track fugitive criminals, strategic methodologies for extradition, and examining the financial activities of wanted individuals.

Specialized sessions will tackle matters related to narcotics, terrorism, cybercrime, organized crime, and economic offenses.

Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's guidance, India has amplified its efforts towards international collaboration in criminal investigations. Earlier this year in July, Amit Shah emphasized the need for a coordinated strategy to hasten the repatriation of fugitives from foreign nations. The aim of the conference is to formulate strategies for accomplishing this objective via legal and diplomatic means, within a specified timeframe.

At present, over 300 extradition requests from India await action from several foreign governments. Officials recognize that many delays occur due to fugitives exploiting legal gaps in their host countries. Numerous offenders are linked to organized criminal networks and continue to operate internationally.

Throughout the conference, law enforcement agencies alongside domain specialists will brainstorm practical solutions to surmount these hurdles and establish a blueprint for quicker extradition of fugitive criminals.

Amit Shah previously introduced the BHARATPOL portal, engineered by the CBI, which consolidates district police units, state police, central law enforcement bodies, and the CBI into a unified platform for seamless information sharing.

The CBI anticipates that the dialogue and exchange of insights during the conference will contribute to the formulation of innovative strategies and improve coordination among agencies to bolster India’s endeavors in ensuring that fugitives face justice.
