Patna, April 30 (NationPress) The MP-MLA court in Patna has granted a one-day parole to former MLA and prominent figure Anant Singh, enabling him to attend a family wedding in his hometown Mokama.
Singh, who was receiving treatment at the prisoners' ward of IGIMS Hospital in Patna, was released from Beur Central Jail following the court's directive earlier on the same day.
He is en route to Mokama to celebrate the wedding of his cousin’s granddaughter, an event for which he had formally requested the court's permission.
The court accepted his plea for temporary release on compassionate grounds, requiring Singh to return to Beur Jail by May 1. Singh, affectionately known as “Chhote Sarkar” by his supporters, had previously been granted a 15-day parole on May 5, 2024, to manage the division of his ancestral property.
During this prior parole, he gained attention by campaigning for JD-U candidate Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh in Mokama and Munger, his political strongholds.
It is notable that Lalan Singh triumphed in the Lok Sabha election, benefiting from Anant Singh's prominent backing. After completing his earlier parole on May 20, Singh returned to jail that same evening.
His recent parole has invigorated his dedicated supporters, many of whom have gathered in Mokama to welcome him.
The atmosphere is described as festive, with locals eagerly anticipating the arrival of their leader.
Anant Singh has been incarcerated in Beur jail since the shooting incident in Nauranga-Jalajpur village on January 23 this year, where he was involved in a gunfire exchange with the Sonu-Monu gang.
Nauranga-Jalalpur is the native village of the Sonu-Monu gang, and Anant Singh allegedly went there to reclaim a house reportedly taken over by them.
On January 24, Anant Singh surrendered at the Barh Sub-Divisional Court and has since been in judicial custody for 14 days, currently held at Beur jail.
