Jailed Bihar MLA Anant Singh Declares No Future Elections
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, March 16 (NationPress) Voting is currently taking place in Bihar for five Rajya Sabha seats, with incarcerated Janata Dal-United MLA Anant Singh arriving under police protection to cast his ballot in the Bihar Assembly on Monday.
Following his voting, the prominent MLA representing Mokama Assembly constituency made a noteworthy political declaration, stating that he will not participate in future elections.
"This marks my last election. I will refrain from contesting any elections henceforth. My children will take part in elections in the future," Anant Singh shared during his interaction with the press at the State Assembly.
Previously, the imprisoned JD-U legislator indicated in the Bihar Assembly that he would cease contesting elections once Nitish Kumar stepped down as Chief Minister.
In a discussion about the state's political landscape, Anant Singh reaffirmed his stance when asked about potential successors for Nitish Kumar as Chief Minister and whether his son, Nishant Kumar, could assume that role. He noted that the decision would ultimately lie with Nitish Kumar.
When posed with a question about accepting a Chief Ministerial candidate from the Bharatiya Janata Party, Anant Singh expressed no objections to any decisions made.
After addressing the media, the Mokama legislator was escorted back to jail in a police vehicle.
Anant Singh was elected as an MLA from the Mokama Assembly seat for the fifth time during the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections; however, he is currently incarcerated in relation to the murder case of Dularchand Yadav.
Dularchand Yadav was killed amid the 2025 Assembly election campaign while supporting a candidate from the Jan Suraaj Party.
The incident occurred following a reported clash between rival group supporters during last year's Bihar election campaign.
While initial reports indicated that Dularchand Yadav suffered a gunshot wound, subsequent investigations revealed that blunt force trauma to the chest was the cause of death.
Family members of the deceased have claimed that he was run over by a vehicle associated with Anant Singh.
In connection with this case, Anant Singh and two of his associates were apprehended on November 2, 2025, and he has remained in judicial custody since that date.
