Gurugram, April 19 (NationPress) Haryana Energy, Transport, and Labour Minister Anil Vij has acknowledged the recent gas pipeline fire incident in Gurugram, labeling it a ‘serious issue’.
Vij announced that a committee will be established under the leadership of the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of the Energy Department.
“This committee will probe if gas pipelines have been installed beneath power lines and if they comply with all standards,” he stated.
Two parked vehicles were entirely consumed in the gas pipeline fire incident. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties.
The minister revealed that just two days before, a gas pipeline was discovered running under an electric power line in Gurugram.
He raised concerns about how such a pipeline could be placed under a power feeder, especially since it traverses the entire city. He also questioned whether the gas line was installed prior to or after the power feeder.
“The closeness of the two systems presents a considerable risk, and a thorough investigation will be conducted. A survey of the entire Gurugram area will also be performed,” he noted.
Responding to inquiries regarding electricity availability during the summer months, Anil Vij assured that there would be no power outages this year.
He mentioned that comprehensive preparations have been made and the state possesses adequate electricity. He has instructed that transformer banks and vehicles be stationed at every substation for prompt fault response.
“Orders have also been issued to replace any weak wires and conductors as necessary. Officials have been directed to upgrade transformers where load capacity is insufficient,” he added.
Vij further disclosed that recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation for an 800 MW ultra-critical unit in Yamunanagar. Likewise, thermal units will be established and expanded at Khedar and Panipat.
“There is no electricity shortfall in the state, and all essential arrangements have been made. The only issue arises when system faults occur, which take time to resolve, and officials have been instructed to handle this efficiently. A meeting of energy department officials was recently convened in Chandigarh, where various strategies for the enhancement of the department and power companies were discussed,” he concluded.
