APEDA brings 35+ global buyers to BIOFACH India 2026 to boost organic exports
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has facilitated the participation of more than 35 international buyers from 13 overseas markets at BIOFACH INDIA 2026, a flagship organic trade event being held from 6–8 August 2026 at the India Expo Centre and Mart (IEML) in Greater Noida. The move is aimed at deepening India's footprint in the global certified organic products market and expanding agricultural export avenues.
Key Developments at BIOFACH India 2026
The three-day event, organised by the Commerce Ministry in collaboration with Nuernberg Messe India, features more than 200 exhibiting companies, of which over 60 are participating under the dedicated APEDA Pavilion. International buyers from Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, Mongolia, and Egypt, among others, are attending — representing leading importers, distributors, wholesalers, and retail chains from across the world.
These buyers are engaged in structured Buyer-Seller Meets (BSMs) with Indian exhibitors, designed to foster business partnerships, explore new sourcing opportunities, and build long-term export collaborations.
What the APEDA Pavilion Showcases
The APEDA Pavilion brings together exporters, women entrepreneurs, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs), startups, and organic enterprises. Products on display span certified organic produce from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, and other organic-producing states.
The range includes cereals, pulses, millets, spices, tea, coffee, fresh fruits and vegetables, processed foods, herbs, medicinal plants, oilseeds, edible oils, honey, cocoa products, natural ingredients, organic nutraceuticals, and other value-added food products — reflecting India's agro-climatic diversity and growing strength in certified organic production.
What the Government Said
Katikithala Srinivas, Secretary of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, said the organic sector holds significant potential to enhance India's agricultural exports while creating greater market opportunities for farmers and enterprises. 'Such platforms provide an important avenue for showcasing India's diverse range of certified organic products, facilitating engagement with international buyers, strengthening India's presence in global organic markets, promoting sustainable agricultural practices and supporting greater value realisation across the organic value chain,' he said.
Why This Matters for India's Agri Exports
India's North Eastern states — several of which have been formally recognised as organic farming regions — stand to benefit particularly from this international exposure, given their high proportion of naturally cultivated land. Notably, Sikkim became the world's first fully organic state in 2016, and other northeastern states have been steadily building certified organic credentials since. The participation of FPOs and women entrepreneurs alongside established exporters signals a push to broaden the export value chain beyond large agribusinesses.
With global demand for certified organic food continuing to rise across Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, BIOFACH India 2026 positions Indian producers to capture a larger share of a market that has historically been dominated by European and North American suppliers. The outcomes of the BSMs are expected to translate into formal sourcing agreements in the months ahead.
