The suspects have been named as Mohammad Rafeeq, Shishupal Singh, Vansh Sachdev, and Amit Choudhary.
The Sheshadripuram Police captured them and presented them in court, where they were subsequently taken into police custody for further questioning.
Initial investigations indicate that the accused have no genuine ties to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. They collaborated to extort funds by exploiting the gangster's reputation to instill fear among potential victims.
As per police sources, Mohammad Rafeeq, who hails from Mavalli in Bengaluru, had previously been incarcerated in Delhi for another offense.
During his time in Tihar Jail, Rafeeq met the other three suspects, and they formed a bond.
The group devised a scheme to extort money upon their release from prison, pretending to have ties with Lawrence Bishnoi to scare their targets. However, their plot failed in Bengaluru, resulting in their arrest.
The gang attempted to threaten and extort funds from an industrialist in Bengaluru. The victim reported the incident to the police, who took immediate action and initiated a manhunt.
After receiving the extortion call, which falsely claimed connections to Lawrence Bishnoi, the Bengaluru police heightened their alertness.
The City Police Commissioner, responding to the complaint, ordered a comprehensive search of lodgings throughout the city.
With suspicions that the suspects had traveled from other states and were residing in lodges, strict directives were issued for verification efforts.
Police teams are now scrutinizing guest registers at lodges daily, and officers are proactively visiting rooms to confirm the identities of occupants in questionable situations.
Special focus is being placed on individuals who have recently arrived in Bengaluru and are staying for prolonged periods, police sources noted.
