Itanagar, May 3 (NationPress) - On Saturday, the police of Arunachal Pradesh apprehended four highway robbers who have been implicated in a string of thefts along National Highway-415 within the Papum Pare district since January, officials reported.
A police representative stated that this group of robbers deceived innocent individuals by posing as authorities checking for Inner Line Permits (ILPs), as well as drugs and contraband. They threatened their victims using knives and other sharp implements before making off with cash, mobile phones, electronic gadgets, and various valuables.
Victims lodged FIRs at several police stations, including the Banderdewa police station, under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (BNS).
Following these incidents, the police established an investigation team comprising Naharlagun Sub-Divisional Police Officer Longdo and Banderdewa police station's officer in-charge Kipa Hamak.
The police team gathered substantial evidence regarding the robberies, which included CCTV footage and witness statements, prompting comprehensive search operations.
"The police laid an ambush on the National Highway at Karsingsa in the Papum Pare district and apprehended two suspected robbers on Friday night as they were attempting yet another robbery," the official noted.
Although one robber managed to flee, the other was caught and identified as Patey Bagang (19) at the scene.
Upon interrogation, the detainee revealed the identities of three accomplices, leading to a swift operation that culminated in the arrests of Tadar Rar (24), Ngurang Tako (23), and Tabia Kapa (27).
Investigations by the police disclosed that all four individuals are habitual offenders, having engaged in a series of robberies and thefts since January.
In another development, the Naharlagun police recently arrested three burglars from various locations for their involvement in multiple theft and burglary incidents in the capital region.
These arrests were part of increased efforts to combat criminal activities in the capital.
