Arunachal Pradesh Accounts for 50% of India’s Total Hydropower Generation Capacity: CM Khandu

Itanagar, Dec 2 (NationPress) Arunachal Pradesh's Chief Minister Pema Khandu declared on Monday that hydropower stands out as one of the most efficient means of generating revenue, as the state possesses 50% of India’s total hydropower generation capacity.

During an official event, Khandu emphasized that if the planned power projects, which have a cumulative generation capacity of 35,000 MW, are successfully monetized in terms of revenue over the next decade, it could yield an impressive Rs 10,000 crore annually for the state.

He also revealed that the central government has consented to allocate a 26% equity share from each project to the state, in addition to the current 12% free power quota.

Highlighting the increasing revenue collection in the state’s treasury, the Chief Minister reiterated that the revenue generation is projected to experience a substantial rise in the upcoming years.

“The more revenue we generate, the more we can enhance the living standards of our community,” he remarked.

Currently, five hydropower projects with a combined generation capacity of 2,626 MW are underway in the Shi-Yomi district, promising significant benefits to the northeastern region.

To facilitate these power projects, MoUs have been previously signed with prominent central government entities, including the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC), North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO), National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), and Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVN).

Commending the residents of Aalo in the West Siang district for their support of the BJP, Khandu announced the approval of a crucial road linking Jirdin and Eyi via Bumri in West Siang, a commitment he made prior to the elections.

He also pledged to develop the tourism area along the Yomgo River in Aalo township and called for a structured plan and design.

Earlier, Khandu inaugurated a newly built Multipurpose Hall and a walkway alongside the Yomgo River.

On Sunday, the Chief Minister visited Silluk Village, recognized as the cleanest village in Arunachal Pradesh within the Mebo Sub-Division of East Siang district. This village has consecutively received the Chief Minister’s Award for Cleanest Village for three terms.

During a public meeting at Silluk village, the Chief Minister assured that the process for the flood protection proposal would be expedited and that the Mebo CHC would be equipped with necessary doctors and personnel.

At Pasighat, Khandu inspected the ongoing construction of a Smart Guest House, the Smart Market Upgradation project, and the Smart Recreation Centre being developed under the Smart City Mission.
