Guwahati, March 28 (NationPress) Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on Friday that the border disputes between Assam and Meghalaya are on the verge of resolution as both states are adhering to the agreement established with the involvement of Union Home Minister Amit Shah aimed at addressing these issues.
CM Sarma noted, "Currently, there are six regions of contention between Assam and Meghalaya, with three expected to be settled shortly. Nevertheless, I am optimistic that the Meghalaya administration is also eager to resolve the other three disputed areas."
He emphasized that both state governments are obligated to comply with the signed agreement.
The Chief Minister further stated, "Central paramilitary forces are currently overseeing the disputed areas, and we must adhere to the stipulations laid out in the agreement made by both state governments."
Previously, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma remarked that the hill state has maintained peace due to an enhanced law and order situation, while advancements have been made in addressing the border conflict with Assam.
CM Sangma revealed that the Meghalaya administration is in ongoing discussions with the Assam government to settle the border disputes.
He mentioned, "The state government is actively collaborating with Assam to address the areas of disagreement, and we are working towards resolving the next six disputed areas."
Furthermore, CM Sangma confirmed that the state government successfully evacuated students and workers from Meghalaya who were stranded in Bangladesh due to unrest in the neighboring nation.
"The law-and-order situation in the state remains stable, and there have been constructive steps taken towards resolving the interstate border dispute with Assam," the Meghalaya CM remarked.
