Guwahati, April 23 (NationPress) The Assam state BJP president and Lok Sabha MP Dilip Saikia condemned the Pahalgam terror attack on Wednesday, labeling it a cowardly act and calling for decisive action from the government. Saikia informed reporters, “This attack on tourists exemplifies cowardice and is utterly reprehensible. The central government will certainly deliver a fitting response to the terrorist groups responsible for this heinous act. The administration is actively engaged in supporting the families affected by the tragedy in Pahalgam.”
He further noted, “The precise casualty figures are still under review, while the administration continues to provide assistance to those injured in the attack.”
Previously, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed, “I am confident that Bharat will track down every one of the cowards behind this despicable attack in #Pahalgam today. The entire nation stands united with the grieving families during this challenging time.”
In the meantime, Kashmir is in mourning with widespread protests. All sectors, including trade, travel, industry, transportation, and educational institutions, were halted across the Valley on Wednesday as political, religious, social, and professional groups condemned the barbaric killings of innocent people in Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam on Tuesday afternoon.
Grim details are emerging regarding the atrocious actions of the assailants. Eyewitnesses reported that the terrorists segregated men from women and children, demanding the men to recite the ‘Kalima’ (a Muslim prayer). Those identified as non-Muslims were shot at point-blank range, and two locals, who attempted to challenge the killers' barbaric actions, were also killed.
The victims predominantly hailed from Karnataka, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat. Reports indicate that two locals argued with the terrorists over their inhumane treatment of innocent civilians.
The deceased included a Navy officer, Lieutenant Vinay Narwal from Haryana, who had been married just a week prior on April 16. Also among the lost lives was IB officer Manish Ranjan from Bihar.
According to eyewitness accounts, survivors were so traumatized that when security forces arrived from Pahalgam town, they began to weep and mourn, as the assailants had donned Indian Army uniforms.
