Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Guwahati, Feb 20 (NationPress) Senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and President of the Assam unit, Dilip Saikia, on Friday, took aim at Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra during her trip to the state, claiming she was trying to deceive the public to safeguard party figure Gaurav Gogoi.
While addressing reporters, Saikia remarked that the BJP welcomed Priyanka Gandhi to Assam, but her remarks and political maneuvers appeared to be designed to protect Gogoi instead of tackling genuine public issues.
He accused the Congress leadership of intentionally redirecting focus from critical matters for the benefit of its leaders.
“The allegations concerning Gaurav Gogoi’s supposed connections to Pakistan are not personal; they pertain to national security and the safety of our nation,” Saikia emphasized.
He insisted that such topics should not be downplayed or framed as political revenge, adding that the people of Assam and India deserve to know the truth.
The Assam BJP chief also asserted that rather than clarifying the allegations, the Congress was engaging in what he termed as political theatrics and emotional manipulation.
According to Saikia, Priyanka Gandhi's visit was intended to sow confusion and garner sympathy, rather than delivering concrete answers on matters of national significance.
He criticized the Congress for its history of compromising national interests for political advantage.
Saikia stated that the BJP would persist in raising inquiries related to national security and would not remain silent under any duress.
He affirmed that the BJP is committed to transparent governance and accountability, asserting that any issue concerning the nation’s security must be handled with utmost seriousness.
He concluded that the people of Assam are politically astute and will not fall for what he referred to as misleading narratives.
Earlier on Friday, Priyanka Gandhi dismissed the accusations made by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma regarding Gogoi's alleged Pakistan ties, asserting that such claims would not resonate with the people of Assam.
“The charges leveled by the Chief Minister against Gaurav Gogoi are not credible to the people of Assam,” she stated.
Commenting on the political climate as the state Assembly elections approach, the Congress leader accused Chief Minister Sarma of resorting to fear tactics as the polls near.
She vocally defended Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, describing him as a constructive leader dedicated to value-driven politics.
“Gaurav Gogoi embodies positivity and aims to engage in politics based on principles in Assam. The Chief Minister seems intimidated as the elections draw near,” Priyanka Gandhi stated.
