Assam Chief Minister Participates in Bhumi Pujan for New Brahmaputra River Bridge

Guwahati, Dec 8 (NationPress) In a crucial initiative aimed at bolstering Assam's road infrastructure, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the Bhumi Pujan ceremony for the Palashbari-Sualkuchi bridge over the Brahmaputra River on Sunday, as reported by officials.
During the event, Sarma celebrated this occasion as a historic milestone, emphasizing its importance in improving the state's transportation framework.
He mentioned that the bridge, which will extend a total of 3.6 kilometres, is projected to be finished by June 2028. It will include a 5.3-kilometre four-lane road connecting Palashbari and a 2-kilometre route leading to Sualkuchi, alongside elevated roadways to safeguard the wetlands situated north of Sualkuchi.
Sarma suggested that this bridge will induce a transformative change in connectivity between the northern and southern banks of the Brahmaputra, facilitating access to key locations such as Gauhati University, Tura in Meghalaya, and Goalpara.
He reiterated that government projects that were previously hampered by logistical issues in regions like Hajo, Ramdia, and Sualkuchi could now be executed.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the upcoming construction of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Palashbari, which will enhance communication for students from North Assam once the bridge is operational.
Reflecting on the advancements made since Prime Minister Modi assumed office in 2014, CM Sarma acknowledged the significance of the Dhola-Sadiya and Bogibeel bridges.
He mentioned the current construction of a bridge linking Jorhat and Majuli, along with plans to commence a major tunnel road project between Gohpur and Golaghat next year, entailing an investment of 12,000 crore rupees.
Moreover, the Chief Minister revealed plans for a 32-kilometer elevated corridor designed to protect Kaziranga's wildlife during floods, with an estimated budget of 8,000 crores.
He commented on the successful completion of the Kaliabhomora Bridge and indicated intentions for another bridge connecting Morigaon and Darrang.
Sarma confirmed that construction on the Palashbari-Sualkuchi Bridge would commence immediately, alongside the rapid advancement of the Phulbari Bridge.
He also mentioned the ongoing development of six new bridges in Barak Valley.
The Chief Minister credited these significant strides to the relentless efforts of Prime Minister Modi, reaffirming a pledge towards Assam's sustainable growth. He noted that the achievements of the past decade illustrate how peace and progress can coexist, nurturing new aspirations for the future.
Sarma expressed pride in Assam's emerging status as a beacon of progress on the national scene, emphasizing that the successes in the Jalukbari constituency represent how collaborative endeavors with the community can lead to substantial enhancements in quality of life.
This success, he claimed, motivates newly elected MLAs to advance the development of their constituencies, showcasing how diligence and commitment can embed growth within the very fabric of the community.
