Guwahati, Jan 8 (NationPress) Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed on Thursday that over 17 lakh women in the state have benefited from financial support under the government's primary initiative, the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA). Furthermore, an estimated 32 lakh women from various Self Help Groups (SHG) are set to gain from this program.
During an event in Lakhimpur district, CM Sarma mentioned that 71 Legislative Assembly Constituencies have been included, with a total of 17,07,449 women receiving financial aid.
He highlighted that around 32 lakh women from self-help groups throughout the state will also benefit from this initiative.
Characterizing it as a fully women-focused program, he noted the enthusiasm it has generated among women, asserting that no previous administration had launched such a comprehensive scheme.
The Chief Minister also shared the news that an additional 2,000 women from the Lakhimpur constituency will be included under the Orunodoi scheme.
In the meantime, CM Sarma indicated that unprecedented development has occurred in Lakhimpur district over the past five years.
He provided updates on the construction of a bridge between Ghunashuti and Lohit Khabalu, which is currently underway.
The Chief Minister additionally mentioned that several roads have been constructed within the constituency, alongside the establishment of a university, medical college, nursing college, educational institutions, and Anganwadi centres.
He also pointed out that the railway over-bridge at Nakari in North Lakhimpur, with an investment of approximately Rs. 63 crore, and the upcoming sports project at Chabati will be inaugurated shortly.
Reaffirming the government's dedication to the development of Lakhimpur and the upliftment of all societal sections, the Chief Minister declared that the government will enhance efforts in the upcoming days.
On Thursday, CM Sarma laid the foundation stone and performed Bhumi Pujan for a new Lakhimpur District Commissioner's Office. This office will be constructed over 20 bighas of land at a cost of Rs. 51.62 crore, creating a multi-storey complex that will accommodate essential government offices, thereby improving efficiency, accessibility, and public convenience.
The Chief Minister also officially inaugurated the distribution of cheques to beneficiaries in the Lakhimpur Legislative Assembly Constituency under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan.
Moreover, CM Sarma dedicated to the public a new model residential school at the new campus of North Lakhimpur University.
Constructed at an expense of around Rs 30.42 crore over 32 bighas of land, the new campus features a two-storied academic and administrative building with 14 classrooms, a library, an auditorium, and state-of-the-art science laboratories.
For students' convenience, three two-storied hostels with a total capacity of 300 seats have been constructed, along with separate residential quarters for the Vice-Chancellor, faculty members, and staff.
