“This Bihu, we are honoring 9.2 lakh citizens throughout the country with these Gamosas, procured from over 5 lakh weavers in Assam,” Sarma shared on X.
As Assam celebrates Bohag Bihu and the Assamese New Year, festivities will continue until Tuesday.
Bihu committees across the state are organizing spectacular events, ranging from traditional dance contests to musical nights featuring local artists and cultural figures.
Youth groups are energetically rehearsing, eager to showcase their vibrancy and pride.
In rural areas, celebrations remain deeply rooted in tradition - warm, lively, and inviting. The sounds of laughter harmonize with music as communities gather to celebrate nature’s gifts, togetherness, and the enduring connection with their homeland.
Even in urban areas, where life can feel fast-paced, Bihu draws people back to their origins. Businesses and schools shut down for the festivities, prompting many to return to their hometowns, enchanted by the allure of tradition, family, and celebration.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have also conveyed their heartfelt wishes for Bohag Bihu in Assam.
“Warm wishes for Bohag Bihu to everyone!” PM Modi expressed on X, emphasizing that as Bohag or Rongali Bihu signifies the start of the Assamese year, may it herald fresh beginnings, joy, and prosperity in all endeavors. He prayed for everyone’s well-being and the realization of aspirations.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah similarly shared on X: “Sending warm regards to our sisters and brothers of Assam on Bohag Bihu. May the joy of the Assamese New Year, celebrated along the banks of the Brahmaputra, usher in prosperity and wellness for all.”
