Guwahati, March 21 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced on Thursday that the state cabinet has conveyed its appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the approval of a fertilizer plant in Namrup with a production capacity of 12 lakh metric tonnes, as outlined in the recent Union Budget.
Sarma informed the press in Dibrugarh, stating: "PM Modi initiated the approval for the fertilizer factory in Namrup. This facility will have a production capability of 12 lakh MT, and the central government will invest at least Rs 10,000 crore in establishing this project in Assam. We are profoundly thankful to the Prime Minister, and the state cabinet has unanimously passed a resolution expressing gratitude to PM Modi and the Union Cabinet for greenlighting the Namrup Fertilizer Plant.”
The Chief Minister expressed hope that PM Modi will lay the foundation stone of the proposed facility during his visit to Assam in October this year.
“I am optimistic that the Prime Minister will commence the establishment of the fertilizer plant in Namrup in October,” Sarma stated.
In addition, the state cabinet has made several significant decisions. Alongside infrastructure development, the Chief Minister announced initiatives aimed at enhancing business operations in Assam.
During the cabinet meeting, it was decided that shops in Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and Silchar will be allowed to operate continuously for 24 hours.
In other urban regions, businesses can now function until 2 a.m.
“Since Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and Silchar are municipal corporations, the cabinet has approved 24-hour business operations in these cities. The previous state government mandate for a weekly closure day for shops has been removed, allowing businesses to stay open every day,” Sarma explained.
In rural areas, businesses can now operate until 11 p.m.
Focusing on worker welfare, the Chief Minister highlighted that no business can require employees to work beyond nine hours daily.
“Employees in smaller enterprises cannot exceed 48 working hours weekly, with shifts capped at nine hours per day. For shops that are open 24 hours, owners must employ at least three workers to manage three shifts, each lasting no more than eight or nine hours,” Sarma clarified.
This initiative aims to foster job creation in small businesses. Sarma expressed optimism that the new business-friendly policies would stimulate economic growth, particularly during festive periods.
