During a press briefing, Sarma revealed that the Gohpur–Numaligarh tunnel project, estimated at Rs 18,622 crore, will be constructed beneath the Brahmaputra river and will facilitate both road and rail traffic.
Upon its completion, the tunnel will significantly shorten travel times between northern and Upper Assam, while also bolstering defense logistics and freight transportation across the region.

He mentioned that the tunnel will ensure connectivity throughout the year, including during flood seasons, and will be crucial for emergency and national security operations.
Additionally, Sarma announced plans for a ropeway project at Kamakhya, beginning at the Kamakhya station, which aims to alleviate congestion and enhance access for pilgrims visiting the esteemed shrine.
This initiative is expected to provide a substantial boost to religious tourism in Guwahati.
Furthermore, to enhance urban mobility, the Chief Minister disclosed plans for a ring road linking Guwahati airport to Jalukbari, with an estimated investment of Rs 1,500 crore.
This road is anticipated to ease traffic congestion in the city and ensure quicker and more efficient access to the airport. Sarma also announced the development of a four-lane highway connecting Baihata Chariali to Tezpur, with an investment estimate of around Rs 14,000 crore, enhancing connectivity along a vital economic corridor in central Assam.
In terms of healthcare, Sarma indicated that projects totaling Rs 600 crore are in the pipeline for Dibrugarh Medical College and Hospital to upgrade its facilities and expand advanced treatment options.
The Chief Minister asserted that the magnitude of these projects reflects Assam's rapid infrastructure growth, supported strongly by the Centre, positioning the state as a vital connectivity and logistics hub for the Northeast.
