Mumbai, Jan 16 (NationPress) Opposition figures in Maharashtra criticized the state administration on Thursday due to the declining law and order situation following the assault on Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra home.

Shiv Sena-UBT MP Sanjay Raut referred to the attack on Saif as extremely unfortunate and condemned the state government, stating, "It is a fact that even a Padma Shri recipient is not secure in Mumbai as there is no apprehension regarding the police."

"The general populace is not safe in Maharashtra. Now thieves are invading the residences of artists and assaulting them. This is a shock for Prime Minister Narendra Modi as just 15 days ago, Saif met with him and his family. Prime Minister Modi spent an hour with them. Shortly after, Saif was attacked. No one is safe in this state. It has become challenging for women to walk freely on the streets. Nearly 90 percent of the state's security and police forces are assigned to MLAs and individuals who have abandoned their parties. Protection is given to traitors. While the government honored Saif with the Padma Shri, the reality is that Saif is not safe in Mumbai," asserted Raut.

"What is transpiring in Maharashtra? There is no law and order in the state," he claimed.

NCP-SP MP Supriya Sule expressed her shock at the incident and reached out to Saif's sister-in-law Karishma Kapoor via phone to check on the well-being of the actor and his wife, actress Kareena Kapoor.

Shiv Sena-UBT MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also criticized the state government, questioning, "If celebrities are not secure, then who in Mumbai is?"

In her post on X, Chaturvedi stated, "It is disgraceful that Mumbai experiences another high-profile life-threatening incident; the attack on Saif once again raises concerns about the Mumbai Police and the Home Minister. Following a series of events that seem to deliberately undermine Mumbai by targeting prominent figures: Baba Siddique's family is still seeking justice after his shocking murder. Salman Khan was compelled to live in a bulletproof home. Now it is Saif. All in Bandra, an area with a high concentration of celebrities is expected to have appropriate security. If celebrities are not safe, then who is in Mumbai?"

Furthermore, AAP leader Preeti Sharma Menon remarked on X, "Goodness! If the elite can be assaulted in their homes, what hope does the average citizen have for their safety? @Dev_Fadnavis and his Special Commissioners have rendered Mumbai lawless."

Previously, Saif was attacked at his Bandra residence and is currently receiving treatment following surgery at Lilavati Hospital.

NCP-SP president Sharad Pawar commented, "The assault on actor Saif Ali Khan signifies how law and order has eroded in Mumbai. Baba Siddique was murdered in the same vicinity, and today another individual was attacked, which is concerning. The state government, particularly Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also serves as the Home Minister, must address this situation with utmost seriousness."
