New Delhi, Feb 4 (NationPress) On Tuesday, the Delhi Police initiated two legal actions: the first against Chief Minister Atishi for breaching the Model Code of Conduct, and the second against her supporters for hindering governmental operations and assaulting police officials.
CM Atishi's convoy, consisting of 10 vehicles and around 50-60 supporters, arrived at Fateh Singh Marg. When the police requested her to leave due to MCC enforcement, she declined to comply.
A complaint from the Election Commission of India (ECI) led to the case against CM Atishi.
Following the legal action, Atishi, who is contending for the Kalkaji seat, criticized the Delhi Police and ECI for their alleged bias.
In a social media post, she accused her rival, Ramesh Bidhuri, and his family of openly violating the MCC without facing repercussions.
She targeted Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, stating: “The Election Commission is indeed remarkable! Ramesh Bidhuri ji's family members are blatantly breaching the Model Code of Conduct. Yet, no actions are being taken against them.
“I raised a complaint and contacted the police and @ECISVEEP, only to have a case filed against me! Rajiv Kumar ji: How much will you disturb the electoral process,” CM Atishi expressed in her post.
Meanwhile, the BJP's candidate for the Kalkaji seat, Ramesh Bidhuri's nephew, Manish Bidhuri, has also faced legal action under the Representation of People Act.
The campaigning period for the Delhi Assembly elections concluded on Monday, with 699 candidates competing for 70 constituencies.
These elections are being interpreted as a critical assessment of the ruling AAP administration in the national capital over the past decade.
They will also influence the BJP’s trajectory in Delhi over the next five years and determine whether the Congress can regain a foothold in the national capital.
The 70-member Delhi Assembly is set to hold elections on Wednesday, with results expected on February 8.
