Ahmedabad, June 14 (NationPress) Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi chief minister Atishi expressed profound grief over the recent Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, describing the event as heartbreaking and heart-wrenching. She called on AAP volunteers to come forward and support the victims and their families in any way they can.
Upon her arrival in Ahmedabad earlier today, Atishi spoke to the press at the airport, announcing her intentions to visit the victims and their loved ones.
In her comments to IANS, Atishi remarked, “The incident involving Air India flight is truly devastating. Around 241 lives have been lost, including many medical students and local residents who were injured.”
She further stated, “I am here to convey my condolences and will also pay a visit to the trauma center. I have instructed all AAP members in the area to assist families of the victims, the injured, or any locals impacted by the crash.”
Atishi also expressed her condolences for the passing of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, one of the casualties of this tragic incident.
“He was a commendable leader and the former CM of Gujarat. I extend my heartfelt sympathies to his family and supporters,” she remarked.
Previously, on June 13, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Vijay Rupani’s grieving family. Sharing his sorrow, the Prime Minister expressed an emotional message on X, stating, “I met Vijaybhai Rupani’s family and offered my condolences. It’s hard for me to accept that he is no longer with us. We faced many challenges together over the years.”
PM Modi also remembered Rupani for his humble nature and dedication, highlighting his rise through the ranks to become the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
In response to the Air India flight AI-171 crash—a London-bound Boeing 787 Dreamliner that went down shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad—Air India released a statement confirming that it has initiated a thorough series of safety inspections across its 787 fleet.
According to the airline, nine of its Dreamliners have already completed these DGCA-mandated safety checks.
“The inspections are taking place as aircraft return to India, prior to their subsequent deployment,” Air India mentioned in a post on X.
