New Delhi, Feb 4 (NationPress) On the occasion of World Cancer Day, observed on February 4 to promote awareness about this grave illness, the Ayushman Bharat scheme stands as a significant source of hope for numerous patients across India. Dr. Chezhian Subash, a prominent hematologic oncologist and hematologist based in Chennai, underscored the scheme's beneficial influence on cancer care and treatment.

He stated, "Thanks to this scheme, there has been a remarkable enhancement in the accessibility of cancer care. In the past, many patients had to forgo their treatment or encountered considerable delays, which compromised the effectiveness of their care.

"Now, countless patients are reaping the benefits of timely and affordable treatment. I genuinely commend Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his commitment to providing affordable and quality healthcare, especially to cancer patients who represent some of the most vulnerable members of society."

Dr. Subash also highlighted the struggles faced by patients prior to the implementation of the scheme. "For many years, I have witnessed patients traveling long distances, experiencing delays, and grappling with significant financial obstacles that hindered their access to proper cancer treatment. This scheme is proving beneficial by offering timely cancer care."

The Ayushman Bharat scheme offers health insurance coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh per family each year for medical treatment, including cancer care.

By alleviating the financial strain and enhancing access to secondary and tertiary care, the scheme has ensured that a greater number of individuals, particularly from disadvantaged backgrounds, receive the essential treatment.

Since its inception in 2018, Ayushman Bharat has expanded its reach across the nation, covering over 10 crore households and benefiting approximately 50 crore Indians.

This initiative has been particularly transformative for cancer patients, who can now obtain treatment at empaneled public and private hospitals without the fear of exorbitant medical costs.

Through the Ayushman Bharat scheme, the government continues to guarantee that healthcare, including cancer treatment, remains accessible to those who require it the most.
