New Delhi, April 9 (NationPress) The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (PM-JAY) is poised to launch in the national capital on Thursday, with the government led by Rekha Gupta beginning the distribution of health cards to residents who register under the initiative.

According to Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Singh, a total of 2.60 lakh residents have been identified as beneficiaries in the first phase, and these individuals will receive their Ayushman Health cards within the next 40-42 days.

“On the first day, approximately 400-500 individuals will obtain their Ayushman Bharat cards,” he noted, criticizing the prior AAP government for withholding what should have been available to the city's residents.

“The previous administration obstructed the Central healthcare scheme for its own narrow political motives. The citizens of Delhi have been deprived of the Ayushman Bharat Yojana benefits, but now they will be entitled to receive these advantages, just like any other citizen in the country,” the Delhi Health Minister stated.

He further informed IANS that a streamlined system is established for the enrollment of beneficiaries and the allocation of funds under the scheme, along with measures taken to prevent middlemen from interfering.

“Once a beneficiary registers, their details will be updated on the portal, and they will receive a notification on their mobile devices,” he explained.

Importantly, Delhi's Health and Welfare department has recently entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Health Authority (NHA) of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) for the rollout of this scheme.

This development positions Delhi as the 35th state/UT to adopt the AB PM-JAY scheme, with West Bengal being the only state left outside its jurisdiction.

Following this agreement, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta announced that the state government will offer an additional top-up of 5 lakhs above the 5 lakh coverage provided by the Centre.

“Around 6.54 lakh families in the city will now be eligible to benefit from AB PM-JAY, with the distribution of cards commencing on 10th April,” highlighted the Delhi Chief Minister.
