New Delhi, April 23 (NationPress) Following the tragic terror incident in J&K's Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 individuals, including numerous tourists, Abu Asim Azmi, the Maharashtra President of the Samajwadi Party, stated that those who inquire about religion before committing murder cannot be regarded as Muslims.
His remarks come amidst rising anger over allegations that the assailants specifically targeted victims based on their religious affiliations.
“If it is accurate that the perpetrators questioned names and religion prior to killing, then they are not Muslims. They are not murderers in the name of Islam. They ought to be expelled from Islam,” Azmi expressed in an interview with IANS, condemning the horrific act.
Describing the occurrence as profoundly tragic, he stated, “I am extremely saddened. Families had traveled to Kashmir for summer vacations, and this is what they faced.”
Azmi alluded to the 2019 Pulwama attack, asserting that the full truth surrounding that incident has yet to be disclosed.
“Previously, there was a significant event in Pulwama. Yet, the complete truth regarding that incident hasn't been revealed,” he mentioned.
He denounced the Pahalgam massacre as a total breakdown of the security apparatus, questioning how such a heinous act could transpire in an area under continuous surveillance.
“How could so many lives be lost? The government bears the responsibility,” he declared.
Azmi also urged for heightened security measures ahead of the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra, emphasizing that ensuring the safety of pilgrims should be a paramount concern.
“If we cannot prevent terrorists from killing innocent people, we need to reevaluate our entire strategy,” he remarked.
Supporting Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut’s critique of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Azmi argued that the government has not fulfilled its commitment to combat terrorism.
“He claimed demonetization would eradicate terrorism, but has it? This is the most significant act of terror since Pulwama. He has failed and must be held accountable,” he asserted.
Azmi further called for severing ties with Pakistan if investigations determine its involvement: “If Pakistan is behind this, why do we maintain relations? Stop issuing visas, cut connections, and put an end to this farce. Enough is enough,” he concluded.
