Key Takeaways
Chandigarh, March 6 (NationPress) The former Education Minister of Haryana and prominent Congress figure, Geeta Bhukkal, expressed her disapproval on Friday regarding the purportedly inappropriate lyrics found in rapper Badshah's latest track. She emphasized that any form of obscenity directed at women is unacceptable and warrants strong opposition.
In a conversation with IANS, Bhukkal admitted that she had not yet listened to the song but referenced media coverage that highlighted the usage of inappropriate language concerning women.
"Although I haven’t personally heard the song, I have come across reports indicating that it contains disrespectful language about women. Such expressions are entirely unacceptable," she stated.
Bhukkal further noted that while initiatives like ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ are promoted nationwide, it is crucial to uphold the dignity, respect, and safety of daughters in everyday practice.
She asserted that the community must reject content that promotes obscenity towards women and that this issue should transcend political differences. "The dignity of our daughters and sisters is a priority that should unite everyone, regardless of their affiliations," she added.
In response to the notice from the Haryana State Women's Commission, Bhukkal reiterated the importance of ensuring respect for women.
Meanwhile, Haryana's School Education Minister, Mahipal Dhanda, informed that the state government acted swiftly once the issue was brought to their attention.
"Upon learning of the situation, the state government took immediate action as directed by the Chief Minister, leading to the filing of an FIR," Minister Dhanda stated.
Chairperson of the Haryana State Women's Commission, Renu Bhatia, also criticized the lyrics, labeling them as offensive and disgraceful. "The language used by the artist was extremely inappropriate. It is perplexing why a well-known Punjabi rap artist would choose to demean the people of Haryana and Punjab in this manner. Such language cannot be tolerated. The objectionable terms must be retracted, and an apology is necessary," she emphasized.
Local community leaders have also voiced their concerns regarding the song. Suresh Phogat, the Pradhan of Sarva Jati Phogat Khap, mentioned that they have formally requested Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini to impose a stringent ban on songs that glorify gun culture or demean women.
Earlier on Friday, the Haryana State Women's Commission issued a notice to Badshah concerning the alleged obscene lyrics in his new Haryanvi folk-style song 'Tateeree', requesting his presence before the commission on March 13 to provide his statement.
