Haryana Police Ordered to Detain Rapper Badshah Over Controversial Song
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chandigarh, March 13 (NationPress) In a significant turn of events, rapper-singer Badshah did not show up in Panipat on Friday as required by a summons from the Haryana State Commission for Women. Following this, the commission's Chairperson, Renu Bhatia, instructed local police to detain the artist in connection with the controversial Haryanvi song Tateeree.
Bhatia emphasized that law enforcement in both Panipat and Panchkula must take necessary action against Badshah and ensure his arrest. Furthermore, she issued notices statewide indicating that if Badshah fails to appear before the commission, his performances in Haryana would be prohibited.
The Chairperson also directed the police to seize Badshah's passport if necessary, to prevent him from fleeing abroad to escape the investigation.
Despite a request from Badshah's legal counsel to meet with the Chairperson, she declined, insisting that he must appear in person by 3 p.m. The lawyer conveyed to the media in Panipat that they were given a time slot from the commission, asserting that Badshah “is an artist who brings pride to Haryana.”
In a recent social media video, the rapper apologized, clarifying that it was never his intention to offend anyone.
Complainant Savita Arya informed the media that the commission’s Chairperson was unwilling to engage with Badshah’s lawyer. She stated that Bhatia had made it clear that if Badshah shows up by 3 p.m., the matter could potentially be resolved; otherwise, legal measures would be taken against him.
Recently, the state police registered a first information report (FIR) against Badshah, whose real name is Aditya Prateek Singh Sisodia, for allegations concerning his song featuring schoolgirls dancing on a Haryana Roadways bus and making inappropriate gestures.
The FIR notes that Badshah's new song Tateeree was released on his official YouTube channel and rapidly gained viral attention. The Haryana State Commission for Women has taken serious note of the song, prompting them to issue a summons to the artist.
In addition to Savita Arya, another complainant, Shiv Kumar, who leads the Shiv Aarti India Foundation, has claimed that Tateeree contains offensive language and sexualized content that objectifies both women and minors.
