Rewa, Dec 25 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated on Thursday that the Bagheli language from Rewa held a special place in the heart of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who frequently communicated in that dialect.
Shah made these comments while speaking at a farmers' conference in the Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh, where he launched the state's 'Natural Farming Project'.
The Bagheli language is native to the Baghelkhand region, which encompasses the districts of Rewa, Sidhi, and Satna in Madhya Pradesh, and is closely related to Avadhi and Bhojpuri. Rewa is bordered by Uttar Pradesh on three sides - Allahabad (Prayag), Mirzapur-Banaras, and Chitrakoot.
Prior to his speech, HM Shah toured a 'Gaushala' (cow shelter) using e-carts and reviewed an exhibition organized by the Agriculture Department in the Basaman Mama area of Rewa.
Present at the event were Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Deputy CM Rajendra Shukla, who is a Rewa native, and several local BJP leaders including State BJP president Hemant Khandelwal.
Interestingly, the Basaman Mama Gaushala, which houses over 7,000 cows, was established to shelter abandoned animals.
This event in Rewa aligns with Chief Minister Yadav's strategy for cultivating agricultural development and endorsing natural farming by 2026.
After dedicating two years to initiatives focused on Women Empowerment (2024-25) and Industrial Growth (2025-26), CM Mohan Yadav has proclaimed 2026 as the Agriculture Year.
Under this initiative, measures will be taken to enhance farmers' incomes, promote climate-smart natural farming, ensure just crop prices, encourage technological advancements, and integrate digital solutions in agriculture.
Madhya Pradesh is a leader in maize and soybean production, and ranks second in the country for wheat, urad, lentil, chickpea, mustard, total oilseeds, pulses, cereals, and coarse grains.
Over the last two years, the Madhya Pradesh government has procured 2.41 crore metric tonnes of grains from 48.51 lakh farmers, with direct payments totaling Rs 81,767 crore credited to their accounts.
To aid farmers facing crop losses due to natural disasters, the state has provided compensation amounting to Rs 1,243.54 crore to 77 lakh farmers in the past two years.
Through the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi offers Rs 6,000 annually to farmers, matched by the state government. Since April 2025, a cumulative total of Rs 65,756 crore has been disbursed to 1.61 crore farmers under this joint initiative.
