Madhya Pradesh CM: PM Modi Realizing Atal Bihari Vajpayee's Vision of River Interlinking

Bhopal, Dec 12 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, announced on Thursday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is bringing to life the aspiration of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee with the National River Linking Project.

During a briefing regarding the two significant river interlinking initiatives—Ken-Betwa (connecting Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh) and Parvati-Kali Sindh-Chambal (linking Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan)—Chief Minister Yadav highlighted the progress made.

He noted that various challenges arose during the initiation of these river projects, but under PM Modi's leadership, all issues were amicably resolved between the two neighboring states.

“The principal obstacle in the Ken-Betwa linking project was the forest land, which we addressed by constructing a tunnel. I recall PM Modi emphasizing his commitment to this project, and I assured him that all matters would be settled promptly,” CM Yadav remarked.

He further stated that PM Modi is set to lay the foundation stone for the Ken-Betwa river linking project on the birthday of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on December 25, which will serve as a fitting tribute.

According to him, both Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh will jointly cover 10 percent of the project's costs, while the remaining 90 percent will come from the central government.

This initiative will supply irrigation water to over 8.1 lakh hectares in the Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh and an additional 2.5 lakh hectares in Uttar Pradesh.

Discussing the Parvati-Kali Sindh-Chambal river linking project, CM Yadav expressed that this essential development has been stalled for 20 years due to various issues.

“The lack of consensus on this project was primarily due to the different political parties governing both states. Multiple discussions took place between officials from Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Thanks to PM Modi's guidance, all challenges have now been addressed,” he added.

He also mentioned that on December 17, PM Modi will inaugurate the foundation stone for the Parvati-Kali Sindh-Chambal river-linking project in Jaipur.

Furthermore, CM Yadav indicated that following these two projects, there are plans to interconnect several major rivers in the state. “Upon receiving direction from PM Modi, I have instructed officials to prepare a report on the rivers to be interconnected,” he concluded.
