Madhya Pradesh CM Affirms Former PM Vajpayee's Vision for River Interlinking is About to Materialize

Bhopal, Dec 16 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, expressed on Monday that the aspiration of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to interlink rivers through the tripartite agreement concerning the major Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal link project is set to come to fruition shortly.

The formal signing of this contract is scheduled to take place in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Jaipur on Tuesday.

The Chief Minister highlighted that this much-anticipated development, which has been stalled for over 20 years for various reasons, is finally taking shape.

"The consensus on this project was difficult to achieve primarily because the two states were governed by different political parties. Numerous discussions took place between officials from both Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Following directives from PM Modi, all outstanding issues have now been resolved," CM Yadav stated.

He further noted that the project will serve 3,217 villages across districts including Guna, Morena, Shivpuri, Bhind, Sheopur, Ujjain, Sehore, Mandsaur, Indore, Dhar, Agar Malwa, Shajapur, and Rajgarh in the state.

"The Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal link project will be a significant advantage for both farmers and residents in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. It will ensure an ample water supply for irrigation, paving the way for new avenues of growth," he added.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the project will usher in prosperity for both Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Farmers can expect to double their yields thanks to the water supplied by the project, contributing to the state’s overall prosperity and the well-being of their families, according to CM Yadav.

The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 72,000 crore, with Madhya Pradesh accounting for Rs 35,000 crore, Rajasthan for Rs 37,000 crore, and the remaining funds provided by the Central Government.

The project will boast a total water-filling capacity of 1908.83 cubic metres.

Additionally, 172 million cubic metres of water will be allocated for drinking and industrial use.

The construction will include 21 dams as part of the project.

Following the Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal project, PM Modi is also set to inaugurate another river interlinking initiative, the Ken-Betwa project, between Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh during his visit to Sagar on December 25.

This forthcoming project is expected to provide irrigation water for over 8.1 lakh hectares in Madhya Pradesh's Bundelkhand region and an additional 2.5 lakh hectares in Uttar Pradesh.

Last week, the Chief Minister remarked that after the initiation of these two projects, several major rivers within the state will also be interconnected.

He stated that PM Modi has directed him to formulate a plan for this objective.
