Bhopal/Rewa, Dec 24 (NationPress) Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah along with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav is scheduled to lead a significant farmers' conference centered around natural farming in Rewa on December 25, commemorating the birth anniversary of the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, as per a government press release issued on Tuesday.

The key feature of this event will be the launch of a natural farming project at the Basaman Mama Gaushala (cow sanctuary) in Rewa at 3 PM.

After the launch, the leaders will engage in a large-scale farmers' conference organized nearby the sanctuary.

Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla and several other dignitaries, including Hemant Khandelwal, will also be present. Attendees will explore the gaushala via e-carts and check out an exhibition set up by the Agriculture Department. Progressive farmers embracing natural farming practices will be acknowledged during the event.

The Basaman Mama Gaushala, which was founded to provide shelter for stray and sick cattle, currently accommodates over 7,000 animals. The daily cow dung generated is utilized by a non-governmental organization to produce organic fertilizers, cow dung logs, disinfectants like Gonael, and other environmentally friendly products, thereby fostering self-sufficiency and sustainable agriculture.

This initiative is part of broader efforts in Madhya Pradesh, which has declared 2026 as the Year of Agriculture.

The focus is on enhancing farmers' income through integrated actions in agriculture and related sectors, fostering climate-resilient natural farming, ensuring fair pricing, incorporating technology and mechanization, advancing digital agriculture, and creating new job opportunities through value addition.

Madhya Pradesh excels nationally in maize, soybean, and pulses production, holding the second position in wheat, urad dal, lentils, chickpeas, mustard, oilseeds, pulses, food grains, and coarse grains.

In the last two years, the state has successfully procured 241.31 lakh metric tons of grains from 48.51 lakh farmers, with a total disbursement of Rs. 81,768 crore.

The soybean Price Difference Payment Scheme has distributed Rs 482 crore to over 267,000 farmers. Crop insurance claims amounting to Rs 1,237.54 crore have been resolved for 70 lakh applications.

Moreover, combined Central and state Kisan Samman Nidhi payments of Rs 12,000 per farmer annually have totaled Rs 6,756 crore for 168 lakh farmers since April 2025, according to the statement.

Initiatives such as Rani Durgavati Shri Anna Promotion (incentives for millet procurement in 16 districts), Traditional Agricultural Development (organic certification subsidies), National Mission on Natural Farming (covering 189,125 farmers across 1,513 clusters), and Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana (in eight districts) are propelling sustainable growth, the statement concluded.
