Lucknow, Oct 6 (NationPress) As the investigation into the Bareilly violence escalates, the Uttar Pradesh Police have filed charges against two close aides of Islamic cleric Tauqeer Raza -- Dr. Nafees and Nadeem. They are accused of creating fabricated and forged letters in the name of a local resident, Liyaqat.
The FIR cites provisions under sections 318 (4), 338, 336 (3), and 340 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Liyaqat asserted that associates of Tauqeer Raza had concocted a fake letter bearing his name, forged his signature, and misrepresented his support for Raza’s call for protests regarding the ‘I Love Muhammad’ issue.
He emphasized that no villagers responded to Raza's appeal for the demonstration related to the 'I Love Muhammad' controversy; however, the pair, Nafees and Nadeem, allegedly falsified his signature on the IMC letter.
“This unlawful act aimed to not only mislead the authorities but also to disturb the peace and tranquility of the city. I wish to clarify that I have no ties with the IMC party, nor have I ever held any official capacity in it,” he stated in the FIR.
Importantly, the Bareilly administration has intensified its efforts to hold accountable those responsible for the violence that erupted following Friday prayers on September 26.
Just a day prior, the Bareilly Development Authority demolished a marriage hall associated with Dr. Nafees Khan, which was constructed on illegally occupied land. The banquet hall was leveled over the weekend, as officials claimed it was built unlawfully on Waqf land.
Bareilly SSP Anurag Arya reported that over 83 individuals have been arrested so far, with operations underway to apprehend the fugitives.
The eyewear shop owned by Nafees Khan, who claims to be a doctor, was also sealed. Furthermore, the properties of Farhat, who allegedly provided refuge to Tauqeer Raza, including his house and four shops, were sealed as well.
Nadeem Khan was discovered to have constructed four shops on prime land worth crores of rupees, leveraging Tauqeer Raza's influence. These establishments too faced sealing by the Bareilly administration.
