Basavaraj Bommai Accuses Karnataka Government of Mistreatment of BJP MLC C. T. Ravi

Bengaluru, Dec 20 (NationPress) BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai has leveled accusations against the Congress administration in Karnataka for allegedly subjecting MLC C. T. Ravi to mistreatment, following his purported inappropriate statement made in the Legislative Council.
Bommai has called for an investigation to determine the validity of the claims against Ravi.
While addressing reporters in New Delhi, he stated: "We are advocating fairly and have not opposed any investigation. It is erroneous to draw conclusions without a proper inquiry or investigation."
The MP added: "In previous incidents within Vidhana Soudha, individuals were not taken to police stations. Instead, a committee was established within the legislature, and actions were taken based on its findings. Yet, in this instance, Ravi was abruptly arrested, taken to the police station, and driven around all night. What law permits such actions?"
Criticizing the state government, the former Chief Minister remarked, "The governance in Karnataka has deviated from its course. A state of police oppression is evident, with law enforcement being misused in various matters. Numerous SITs are being constituted to target opposition leaders and conduct varying investigations."
"Even Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is embroiled in corruption allegations, and investigations are ongoing against him. In this chaotic scenario, the misuse of police has reached the Vidhana Soudha," Bommai stated.
He condemned the arrest of Ravi without any prior investigation and criticized the treatment he received as intolerable.
Such incidents should involve issuing a show-cause notice, conducting inquiries, and taking actions supported by evidence.
"Typically, Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) labs assess video and audio evidence. However, in this scenario, none of that was executed. Within two hours of a complaint, Ravi was arrested, taken to Khanapur Police Station, and subjected to both mental and physical distress," he explained.
"There are established laws and procedures, yet none have been adhered to. Law enforcement has transgressed legal boundaries, acting under political coercion. The Chief Minister must take this matter seriously. Such oppressive and authoritarian measures cannot endure against the strength of public opinion. If these practices persist, challenging times for the government are imminent," Bommai cautioned.
