BJP MLC Controversy Considered Resolved, Police Involvement Unacceptable: Karnataka Legislative Council Chairman

Bengaluru, Dec 23 (NationPress) Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti has declared that the controversy over derogatory remarks involving BJP MLC C.T. Ravi and Minister for Women and Child Welfare Laxmi Hebbalkar is officially a closed matter, emphasizing that any police involvement is inappropriate.

Addressing the media in Bengaluru on Monday, Chairman Horatti remarked that the issue concerning derogatory remarks is settled. “The incident that occurred during the Legislative Council session has been thoroughly discussed,” he remarked.

“After the House was adjourned indefinitely, BJP MLC C.T. Ravi was taken into custody from the premises of the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi. At present, we have not received any grievances from either party. Should a complaint regarding a breach of privilege arise, we will take necessary actions,” he mentioned.

“The police should not involve themselves in matters that transpired within the council. They lack jurisdiction over incidents that occur within the House,” Horatti asserted.

“An FIR has been lodged in this regard. The police have not entered the council premises. We will evaluate the situation if there are any video or audio recordings available related to the incident. If any other party submits video or audio, we will forward it to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL). No recordings were made after the House session concluded for the day,” Horatti explained.

Previously, Horatti had mentioned that the case involving the obscene remarks by BJP MLC and the Minister would be referred to the Ethics Committee, and subsequent actions would be determined based on their report.

On December 19, chaos erupted during a heated debate in the Legislative Council when C.T. Ravi allegedly referred to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, as a “drug addict.”

Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar objected to these remarks, labeling Ravi a “murderer.” In response, the BJP leader reportedly used an obscene term towards the female minister. Following Minister Laxmi's complaint, the police apprehended MLC Ravi on charges of sexual harassment. However, on December 20, the High Court provided interim relief to Ravi, ordering his immediate release.
