Controversial Remarks: Karnataka Government Assigns Case to CID, Sparks Political Tensions

Hubballi (Karnataka), Dec 24 (NationPress) The Congress-led administration in Karnataka made a significant move on Tuesday by assigning the inquiry into the obscene remarks controversy involving BJP MLC C.T. Ravi and Minister for Women and Child Welfare Laxmi Hebbalkar to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

This decision is expected to spark controversy since the Chairman of the Legislative Council, Basavaraj Horatti, had previously declared that the matter was settled and that police involvement was unwarranted. Horatti is affiliated with the BJP.

During a press conference at Hubballi airport, State Home Minister G. Parameshwara remarked, “Some individuals allege that BJP MLC C.T. Ravi used a derogatory term. Others insist he did not. To clarify this matter, I have initiated a CID investigation.”

In response to Union Minister for Food, Public Distribution, and Consumer Affairs Pralhad Joshi’s allegations of his inefficiency, Parameshwara countered, “Joshi seems unaware of my capabilities. I could just as easily label him as an ineffective Union Minister. Does that hold any weight?”

Meanwhile, Belagavi Police Commissioner Iada Martin addressed the accusations made by BJP MLC C.T. Ravi regarding police misconduct and his being taken to various locations overnight.

Martin explained, “C.T. Ravi was detained under Sections 75 and 79 of the BNS Act and transferred to the Hirebagewadi police. Due to a large crowd gathered at the Hirebagewadi police station, it was decided to move him to Khanapur police station for safety.”

In Kahanapur as well, numerous media personnel, supporters, and party workers congregated, creating chaos. There were concerns that a larger number of Congress party supporters might arrive, which could jeopardize law and order, the Police Commissioner noted.

Prioritizing the security of C.T. Ravi, he was moved from Khanapur to Ramdurga. Despite efforts to maintain safety, media and others trailed the convoy. In the interest of C.T. Ravi, the convoy attempted to evade them. Throughout this period, the police ensured C.T. Ravi received food, medical care, and other necessities. The following day, he was presented in court, clarified the Police Commissioner.

Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar released a video on Monday showing BJP MLC C.T. Ravi allegedly using derogatory words against her within the Legislative Council, asserting she would never forgive him for this offense.

She stated, “I have requested a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will soon present my complaint. I also intend to meet President Droupadi Murmu to provide her with all evidence related to this case.”

The conflict ignited on December 19 during a heated discussion in the Karnataka Legislative Council, where C.T. Ravi purportedly referred to Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, as a “drug addict”.

This statement elicited intense backlash, with Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar labeling Ravi a “murderer”. Ravi allegedly retaliated with an obscene comment directed at Hebbalkar.

The purported comment led to Ravi’s arrest for using derogatory language against Hebbalkar. However, following a directive from the High Court, Ravi was released, adding to the ongoing political turmoil.
