Basavaraj Bommai Accuses Opposition of Exploiting LPG Issues for Political Gain
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, March 13 (NationPress) Former Karnataka Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai criticized the opposition for attempting to politicize the LPG issue out of sheer frustration. He highlighted the global challenges arising from the conflict in West Asia, assuring that there will be no shortage of LPG if citizens maintain their composure.
During a press conference held at the BJP state headquarters on Friday, Bommai pointed out that the LPG situation is prevalent across various states. He clarified that LPG is imported from Qatar and other Arabian nations, and due to disruptions in these supplies, India has forged relationships with four or five alternative countries. This is not merely a Karnataka problem; it is a global concern recognized by many.
Bommai credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian government's diplomatic measures for ensuring a consistent supply of crude oil to the country. He mentioned that many nations are struggling to secure similar arrangements, suggesting that the opposition should express gratitude to Modi instead.
He reminisced about the time of the Iraq war when the Congress-led government mandated that petrol stations close by 8 p.m., leading to long lines at fuel pumps. Bommai noted that the current situation is markedly better due to PM Modi's leadership. He emphasized that India has boosted domestic LPG production by 25% and reiterated that panic is unnecessary.
In response to whether Congress is attempting to sway public opinion against the central government regarding LPG, Bommai accused the party of opposing anything beneficial for the nation. He asserted that Congress consistently resists progress.
On the state budget, Bommai remarked that the effectiveness of the budget lies not in its documentation but in its implementation. He claimed that around 35% of the funds allocated for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes have been misallocated to guarantee schemes, labeling the budget as anti-development. He accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of deceiving the public, predicting that the truth will eventually surface.
Present at the press conference were MP Govind Karjol, former ministers B. Sriramulu, Raju Gowda, Shivanagouda Nayak, and BJP State ST Morcha President Bangaru Hanumanthu.
