BCI Dismisses Sanjeev Nasiar as Vice Chairman of Bar Council of Delhi, Requests CBI Investigation into His Law Degree

New Delhi, Dec 8 (NationPress) The Bar Council of India (BCI) has mandated the removal of Sanjeev Nasiar from his position as Vice Chairman of the Bar Council of Delhi and has requested a thorough investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the genuineness of his LL.B. (Hons) degree and the possible fabrication of related documents.

This decision comes after an investigation carried out by a sub-committee formed in September this year, following directives from the Delhi High Court. The sub-committee, after extensive scrutiny, determined that the legitimacy of Nasiar’s LL.B (Hons) degree is seriously questionable.

The inquiry uncovered notable and glaring inconsistencies in the documentation related to Nasiar’s degree issued by Indore’s Devi Ahilyabai Vishvavidyalaya.

“The examination of P.M.B. Gujarati Arts and Law College, Indore, revealed that the institution was not authorized to offer an LL.B. (Hons) Course during the pertinent timeframe. The academic records submitted to the sub-committee seemed tampered or forged, displaying uniform handwriting and ink consistency that spanned an extended duration. Furthermore, it was confirmed that the LL.B. (Hons) program was instituted under the Bar Council of India regulations only in 2008, making the degree in question, allegedly issued in 1988, inconsistent with these regulations,” stated a press release from the BCI.

The lack of cooperation and obstructive actions by university officials during the inquiry further intensified doubts regarding the authenticity of the degree, the press release added.

In light of the subcommittee's findings, the BCI resolved to engage the CBI for an immediate investigation into the authenticity of Nasiar’s degree and any potential forgery of related documents and to take suitable actions.

“Until the inquiry concludes, Mr. Sanjeev Nasiar is relieved from his duties as Vice Chairman of the Bar Council of Delhi. This action is essential to maintain the integrity and dignity of the legal profession and to uphold public trust,” the BCI resolution noted.

The BCI remains committed to preserving the prestige and honour of the legal profession and is determined to ensure that only those who meet the highest standards of ethics and qualifications are allowed to practice law in India, as highlighted in the resolution.
