Kolkata, Aug 6 (NationPress) The BJP's West Bengal unit has successfully finalized the selection of district presidents across all 42 organisational districts within the state as of Wednesday.
Although the party had previously revealed the presidents for 38 districts, the announcement for four districts—Darjeeling in Darjeeling district, Barrackpore and Bongaon in North 24 Parganas district, and Ghatal in West Midnapore district—was yet to be made.
On Wednesday afternoon, the party's state president and Rajya Sabha member, Samik Bhattacharya, disclosed the names of the presidents for these four districts.
The newly appointed presidents are Sanjeev Tamang for Darjeeling, Tapas Ghosh for Barrackpore, Bikash Ghosh for Bongaon, and Tanmay Das for Ghatal.
Among them, Tanmay Das is the only one being re-nominated, while the other three are fresh faces in their respective roles.
According to an insider from the state committee, the selection for Darjeeling was influenced by the recommendation of local MP Raju Bista. The party leadership recognized that “political dynamics in the hills differ significantly from those in the plains,” thus valuing the local MP's input on this matter.
In Bongaon, the Matua community's voters played a pivotal role in the decision, and the recommendations of the local party MP and Union Minister of State, Santanu Thakur, who belongs to the same community, were given substantial importance.
For Barrackpore, the selection was made based on a unanimous decision from prominent party leaders in that area. As for Ghatal, the continuation of the old face was attributed to his dedicated organizational efforts, as noted by the insider.
