Kolkata, April 16 (NationPress) - West Bengal's Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, fiercely criticized the Central government and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday. She asserted that the delimitation provisions associated with the Women’s Reservation Amendment Bill are merely a tactic aimed at further dividing the state.
"Why was it necessary to include the delimitation provisions alongside the Women’s Reservation Amendment Bill? This is just another scheme to fragment West Bengal. It's also a strategy to potentially remove names from the voters’ list in the future and to introduce the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state," the Chief Minister stated during a campaign rally at Mathabhanga in Cooch Behar district ahead of the crucial two-phase Assembly elections.
Banerjee indirectly took a jab at Union Home Minister Amit Shah, referencing his recent statements regarding identifying and deporting illegal infiltrators if the BJP gains power in the state.
"A certain individual acknowledged that the special intensive revision in West Bengal aimed to eliminate names from the voters’ list. Those now advocating for deportation will find themselves in detention camps after the elections," she remarked.
The Chief Minister expressed her concern over the persistent reports of violence in Cooch Behar district preceding the elections, stating, 'This pattern of violence before elections is all too familiar in West Bengal. While I may not have control over law and order currently, I will reclaim that authority after the elections,' she asserted.
Banerjee further claimed that since the BJP lacks both public support and an organizational foundation in West Bengal, they are resorting to utilizing central agencies to fill these gaps.
"The BJP does not possess the strength to assign personnel to all election booths. Hence, they are attempting to place individuals from these agencies there. They are coming in with substantial amounts of money," she alleged.
