Mamata Banerjee Slams PM Modi for Government Misuse Ahead of Bengal Elections
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, April 19 (NationPress) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee asserted that the decline of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has begun, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of exploiting government resources for political gain.
During an election rally in the Tarakeswar area of Hooghly district, Banerjee claimed that Modi engaged in an unlawful campaign for the BJP through a national address concerning the women's quota bill.
"The BJP misused government resources yesterday for political purposes. We denounce this and will lodge a formal complaint with the Election Commission. This acts against the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for elections," she stated.
In a national address delivered on Saturday, Modi cautioned the Congress and its allies that Indian women would retaliate against them for their actions related to foeticide.
Criticizing Modi for targeting the Opposition, Banerjee remarked, "Prime Minister Modi, you owe the citizens of India an explanation for conducting an unlawful campaign on behalf of your party. The Women's Reservation Bill was approved in September 2023. Why hasn't the central government put it into action?"
She pointed out that the BJP-led central government combined the Delimitation Bill with the women's quota legislation presented in the Lok Sabha.
"The BJP had the nerve to introduce the bill in the Lok Sabha despite lacking the necessary votes to pass it. They faced a defeat there. The BJP's decline has commenced," she asserted.
In her Sunday speech, Banerjee promoted a message of growth for the state administration while also criticizing the central government.
"The verdict will be pronounced in the Lok Sabha. They were defeated. This BJP-led government will not endure. Its downfall has initiated and will progress," she declared.
Regarding parliamentary voting, Banerjee mentioned, "Eight of our Trinamool Congress MPs were unable to attend. The Shiv Sena also could not attend. An additional 25-30 members were absent. If everyone had participated, tally the numbers and you will see, the BJP would face a significant loss."
