Kolkata, March 31 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled its fourth list of candidates for the upcoming two-phase Assembly elections in West Bengal. This latest list features 13 new candidates. Notably, the BJP has revised its choice for the Maynaguri Assembly seat located in Jalpaiguri district, with the new candidate's name also included.
Following the announcement of candidates for 13 constituencies on Tuesday, the BJP is yet to disclose names for six additional seats, as discussions regarding potential candidates are ongoing.
This list reveals that seasoned legislator Mihir Goswami has been replaced in the Natabari constituency in Cooch Behar district, with Girija Shankar Roy, a recent addition to the BJP, now representing that constituency.
In a similar vein, Santosh Pathak, a former Congress councillor from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation who has recently joined the BJP, will be contesting from the Chowringhee constituency in North Kolkata.
The candidate roster also includes Debashis Dhar, a former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, selected for the Sonarpur (Uttar) constituency in South 24 Parganas district. Additionally, Manav Guha, a journalist and YouTuber, has been nominated from the Memari constituency in East Burdwan district.
Dhar marks the second former IPS officer to be nominated by the BJP, following Dr. Rajesh Kumar, the previous Kolkata Police Commissioner, who was earlier announced for the Jagatdal Assembly constituency in North 24 Parganas district.
Guha becomes the third journalist-turned-politician to be featured by the BJP for the West Bengal Assembly elections, joining Jagannath Chattopadhyay from the Suri Assembly constituency in Birbhum district and Santu Pan from the Tarakeswar Assembly seat in Hooghly district. Chattopadhyay also holds the position of state vice-president of the BJP in West Bengal.
Soma Thakur, wife of the two-time Lok Sabha member and Union Minister of State Santanu Thakur, is set to contest from the Bagda Assembly constituency in North 24 Parganas district.
