Kolkata, Oct 29 (NationPress) The BJP is calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic suicide of a 57-year-old man, Pradeep Kar, in Panihati, located in the North 24 Parganas district. This incident reportedly stemmed from concerns regarding a potential implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in West Bengal.
The BJP has raised questions about the timing of this tragic event, especially since an announcement for a special intensive revision has already been made, with preparations set to begin on November 4.
Amit Malviya, head of the BJP’s Information Technology Cell and the party’s central observer for West Bengal, emphasized that the reasons behind such a heartbreaking act should be determined by legal authorities and investigative bodies, rather than through political discourse.
“Let’s clarify the facts — there is currently NO NRC in effect anywhere in the nation. Mamata Banerjee is misleading the public and inciting fear for her political advantage,” he stated.
He further asserted that the ruling party’s anxiety over the SIR exposing issues within the West Bengal administration is driving them to propagate such unfounded fears.
On Tuesday, both Chief Minister Banerjee and Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee accused the BJP and the Union government of instilling fear and division among the populace through the NRC, suggesting that this atmosphere of uncertainty played a role in Kar's tragic decision.
The leadership of the Trinamool Congress has characterized the SIR as a covert tactic by the BJP and the Union government to impose the NRC in West Bengal.
State BJP leader Sisir Bajorria stated that a comprehensive and impartial investigation would uncover the true reasons behind Kar’s suicide. He noted that if fear was indeed a factor, the Trinamool Congress and the Chief Minister are culpable for fostering a false sense of dread by conflating the SIR with the NRC.
Pro-BJP social media influencer and YouTube content creator Sanmoy Banerjee questioned the authenticity of the suicide note found near Kar’s body, which cited the NRC as the cause of his death. He expressed skepticism over whether the ruling party might exploit such incidents to link them to the NRC.
He also raised concerns about the possibility of future suicides in West Bengal being associated with the NRC.
