Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Oct 28 (NationPress) - Bengal BJP leader Rakesh Singh and his children were taken into custody after allegedly causing chaos within a housing complex located in the Kasba region of Kolkata, according to police reports on Tuesday.
The incident reportedly took place on Monday, during which Rakesh, along with his daughter and son, allegedly assaulted a flat owner and his children.
The authorities revealed that the BJP leader possesses a flat in a multi-storey building in Kasba but has been accused of illegally occupying another flat in the same complex.
During an attempt by the flat owner to retrieve his belongings, Rakesh Singh and his children allegedly launched an attack.
The victim claimed that the assailants were armed.
The flat owner, Chandu Khan, sustained injuries from the attack and was subsequently hospitalized. Chandu's sons, Saptarshi Khan and Rajarshi Khan, also suffered injuries.
They alleged that the BJP leader, along with his son and daughter, assaulted them with the butt of a gun and knives.
Following their complaint, the Kasba Police arrested Rakesh Singh, along with his children, Shivam and Simran.
Rajarshi Khan stated, "Rakesh Singh has a flat on the fourth floor. He has unlawfully taken over our flat on the third floor. His belongings are still there. I have repeatedly asked him to remove them, but he has refused. Today, as we were moving our workers and belongings, eight to nine individuals attacked my father and brother. They were armed and beat them with gun butts. My father had to be hospitalized, and they even attacked me with a knife."
A senior Kolkata Police officer confirmed, "The BJP leader and his children have been arrested. A case has been filed against them, and an investigation is underway."
This is not the first run-in with the law for Rakesh Singh. On September 3, he was arrested for vandalism at the headquarters of the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee in Kolkata, where he had been evading authorities since leading an incident of vandalism on August 29.
On September 1, Rakesh's elder son, Shivam Singh, was apprehended for allegedly assisting his father's escape, with charges stemming from an FIR filed by Congress regarding attacks and defacement of posters featuring leaders such as Rahul Gandhi.
