Kolkata, Nov 16 (NationPress) The Governor of West Bengal, C.V. Ananda Bose, characterized the allegations made by Kalyan Banerjee, a four-time Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha representative, regarding arms and ammunition being distributed from the Raj Bhavan in Kolkata as “inflammatory, explosive, and irresponsible”.
In a morning press briefing, the Governor referenced William Shakespeare, labeling Banerjee’s claims as “full of sound and fury, signifying nothing”.
While the Governor stated that he would consider necessary actions concerning the allegations, he refrained from detailing what those actions would entail. “I will make up my mind on the matter and will come back to you this evening,” he mentioned.
Prior to the media briefing, a source within the Raj Bhavan indicated that the Governor's office was contemplating various legal responses, potentially including contacting the Lok Sabha Secretariat to address Banerjee’s remarks.
During his address, the Governor confirmed that the Raj Bhavan would be open from 5 a.m. on Sunday for Kalyan Banerjee, civil society members, and journalists to inspect and verify any arms and ammunition allegedly stored within the premises. “Already, some people have come, and some are still coming. They can see everything themselves,” he stated.
The Governor’s office posed a critical question: with the Kolkata Police responsible for guarding Raj Bhavan, how could arms and ammunition be present on its premises? The Raj Bhavan has also called for an immediate investigation, as Banerjee’s claims imply a possible breach of the Governor's security, who is under “Z plus” category protection.
The Governor's office has also requested an unconditional apology from Kalyan Banerjee if his public allegations prove to be false.
According to a source, the Governor’s security personnel suggested he temporarily vacate the Raj Bhavan for safety until the inquiry regarding illegal arms and ammunition is concluded. The Governor responded, “I will be in Raj Bhavan, come what may,” a source revealed.
On Saturday, Kalyan Banerjee accused the Raj Bhavan of harboring “criminals” linked to the BJP, asserting that the Governor should cease protecting these individuals and supplying them with weapons to harm Trinamool Congress workers. “As long as an incompetent Governor like you remains, as long as a BJP-servant Governor remains, you will never see anything good happening in West Bengal,” Banerjee declared.
