Kolkata, Nov 18 (NationPress) The Governor of West Bengal, C.V. Ananda Bose, has initiated legal proceedings at the Calcutta High Court against Kalyan Banerjee, a four-time member of the Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha, following his statements regarding the alleged distribution of arms and ammunition from the Raj Bhavan in Kolkata.
According to reports, the suit has been lodged on behalf of the Governor's office by the officer-on-special duty (OSD).
It was contended in the suit that the remarks not only damaged the esteemed reputation of the Governor's office but also posed risks of inciting confusion, which could potentially lead to social unrest.
The controversy erupted on Saturday when Banerjee, during a media interaction, accused the Raj Bhavan of harboring “criminals” affiliated with the BJP.
The Trinamool MP further asserted that the Governor should cease providing refuge to these criminals and distributing weapons that threaten the lives of Trinamool Congress workers.
“As long as an incompetent Governor like you remains, as long as a BJP-aligned Governor remains, you will never witness any positive developments in West Bengal,” Kalyan Banerjee stated.
The Governor characterized these accusations as “inflammatory, explosive, and irresponsible,” indicating that he would pursue strong legal actions in response.
He also demanded that Banerjee issue an unconditional apology if the allegations were unfounded.
On Monday, the Governor initiated a comprehensive search and combing operation within the Raj Bhavan premises in central Kolkata to verify the truth of the allegations made by the seasoned Trinamool Congress member.
After the combing operations revealed no incriminating evidence, the Governor threatened to take legal action against Banerjee, culminating in the filing of the suit on Tuesday at the Calcutta High Court.
