Kolkata, Nov 17 (NationPress) The office of West Bengal's Governor, C.V. Ananda Bose, has instructed the Kolkata Police to initiate an inquiry into the serious claims made by the four-time Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha member, Kalyan Banerjee, who alleged that weapons were being distributed from Raj Bhavan in Kolkata. This comes with a directive to file a first information report (FIR) regarding the matter.
According to a source from Raj Bhavan, the Governor's office has warned the city police that failure to comply with this order will lead to actions taken under the Governor's authority.
Simultaneously, the Governor is seeking advice from legal experts on possible repercussions, which may include contacting the Lok Sabha Secretariat to address Banerjee's incendiary comments.
On Sunday morning, the Governor condemned Banerjee's allegations as “inflammatory, explosive, and reckless,” asserting that he would pursue legal actions against him. He demanded an unconditional apology from Banerjee if the allegations are proven false.
Despite the warnings from the government, Banerjee remained undeterred, stating, “If necessary, I will also file a counter suit and fight it out till the Supreme Court level. I challenge the government to appear in an open forum where I will also be present.”
During a media interaction on Saturday, Banerjee accused Raj Bhavan of providing refuge to “criminals” affiliated with the BJP.
He further asserted that the Governor must cease harboring criminals and distributing weapons to them for targeting Trinamool Congress members. “As long as an incompetent Governor like you remains, as long as a BJP-servant Governor exists, you will never witness anything positive happening in West Bengal,” Banerjee commented on Saturday.
Additionally, Banerjee made a controversial statement regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi, suggesting a connection between the Prime Minister and a recent car explosion in New Delhi that resulted in 12 fatalities.
In his remarks to the media, Banerjee claimed the blast was orchestrated deliberately just a day before the second phase of the Bihar Assembly polls to create a sympathy wave for the BJP, directly accusing the Prime Minister of “masterminding that conspiracy.”
