Kolkata, Jan 9 (NationPress) The Governor of West Bengal, C.V. Ananda Bose, has declared his intention to stroll through the streets of Kolkata on Friday, opting to forgo security measures despite receiving a death threat email late Thursday night.
Upon discovery of the email by staff at Lok Bhavan (previously known as Raj Bhavan), the matter was promptly relayed to the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, leading to discussions about enhancing the Governor’s security.
Nonetheless, the Governor has chosen to proceed with his walk in Kolkata without the protection of personal security.
An insider from Lok Bhavan revealed that the Governor expressed confidence in the safety provided by the people of West Bengal and showed no concern regarding the threatening message.
The Governor is entitled to a Z plus category security detail, coordinated by both Kolkata Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). “This is not the first instance of threats directed at the Governor. Security protocols cannot be compromised, prompting discussions about security enhancements,” stated a source from Lok Bhavan.
Additionally, an emergency review meeting concerning the Governor's security was held at midnight on Thursday. “The current security protocols at Lok Bhavan were assessed, and recommendations for enhancements were proposed,” the insider added.
As of now, there has been no official response from the Governor’s office regarding the threat.
Coincidentally, the Governor's planned walk aligns with a significant rally led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in South Kolkata.
The Chief Minister will demonstrate against the recent raids conducted by Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials at the office of the India Political Action Committee in Salt Lake and at the residence of I-PAC co-founder Pratik Jain in central Kolkata.
While the specific time and route of the Governor's walk have yet to be disclosed by his office, the Trinamool Congress rally is scheduled for 2 p.m.
