Kolkata, Nov 17 (NationPress) On Monday evening, the Governor of West Bengal issued a stern warning of legal repercussions against Kalyan Banerjee, a four-time Member of Parliament from the Trinamool Congress, following the latter's allegations that weapons were being distributed from Raj Bhavan to BJP-affiliated individuals.
In response to the Governor's request, a thorough search operation was carried out by Kolkata Police in collaboration with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) within the Raj Bhavan grounds on Monday afternoon.
After the search yielded no findings, the Governor addressed the media, vowing to pursue legal action against Kalyan Banerjee in light of his “unfounded claims,” which he believes have damaged the integrity of the Governor's office.
“Making unfounded accusations against the Governor has become a recurring theme in West Bengal. It seems that no one faces consequences for these baseless allegations. However, I have resolved to take decisive action against such claims if they prove to be completely unfounded. Legal steps will be pursued in this case as well,” stated the Governor.
When questioned about whether his office would engage the Lok Sabha secretariat regarding Kalyan Banerjee's status as an MP, the Governor affirmed that appropriate actions will be taken at the right time.
He refrained from disclosing whether he had discussed the issue with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, stating, “Any dialogue between myself and my constitutional counterpart should remain confidential.”
Earlier on Saturday, Kalyan Banerjee had accused the Raj Bhavan of being a refuge for “criminals” linked to the BJP.
The Trinamool MP asserted that the Governor should cease providing sanctuary to criminals and distributing weapons to them, which he claims are used against Trinamool Congress supporters. “As long as an incapable Governor like you remains in office, and as long as a BJP-aligned Governor is in power, nothing good will come to West Bengal,” Kalyan Banerjee remarked on Saturday.
