Kolkata, July 8 (NationPress) A trial court in Kolkata has ordered the remand of three primary suspects in the Kasba rape case to judicial custody until July 22.
The individuals involved include Monojit Mishra, Jaib Ahmed, and Pramit Mukhopadhyay. Additionally, the fourth accused, Pinaki Banerjee, a security guard from the same institution, has also been remanded until July 22.
Concerns have been raised regarding Banerjee's inclusion as an accused, especially since the victim referred to him as the “sole helpless witness” in her police report filed shortly after the sexual assault on the evening of June 25.
All four were presented in court on Tuesday following their earlier police custody terms. The legal representatives for Mishra, Mukhopadhyay, and Ahmed did not file bail requests on their behalf.
In contrast, Banerjee's lawyer attempted to secure bail, but the judge denied the petition.
The public prosecutor did not pursue an extension for police custody for the suspects but indicated that further investigation might necessitate renewed custody in the future.
During the proceedings, Mishra’s attorney alleged that investigating officials were obstructing his access to his client and accused the police of coercing his client into signing blank documents.
The Kolkata Police's Detective Department is now handling the investigation. On Tuesday, a fact-finding team from the BJP submitted its findings to the party's national president, J.P. Nadda.
The team raised concerns about the police’s investigative approach, noting that the initial FIR referenced the three suspects only by their initials instead of their full names.
