Kolkata, Aug 14 (NationPress) The detectives from the Kolkata Police's investigative unit are currently examining the rape case involving a law college student that occurred on the college grounds in Kasba, South Kolkata this past June. They are anticipated to submit their initial charge sheet to a trial court within this month.
Sources familiar with the situation indicate that the investigating team is nearing the conclusion of their inquiry, which suggests that the charge sheet will likely be filed in the lower court shortly.
Reports indicate that all four individuals apprehended in connection with this incident will be listed as accused.
The individuals arrested include Monojit Mishra, Jaib Ahmed, Pramit Mukhopadhyay, and Pinaki Banerjee.
Mishra has been identified as the individual responsible for the rape, while Ahmed and Mukhopadhyay are noted as accomplices in the crime.
Pinaki Banerjee, a security guard at the law college, is said to be the sole witness to the incident as per the victim's statement to the police shortly after the event on the evening of June 25.
On Wednesday, investigators collected voice samples from Mishra at the Presidency Central Correctional Home in South Kolkata, where all four suspects are currently detained.
According to Rupesh Kumar, the Joint Commissioner (Crime) of Kolkata Police, this action was taken following directives from the trial court.
In July, police reported securing critical evidence from two forensic analyses. They also obtained CCTV footage showing the accused dragging the victim to the guard room, where the rape occurred.
Mishra has a history of criminal behavior, including hooliganism, inflicting serious injuries with sharp objects, assaulting junior students, and even sexually harassing female students.
Despite these previous incidents, both the college authorities and the police seemingly overlooked them until the rape of a law student within the college premises alarmed the city of Kolkata.
