Kolkata, March 24 (NationPress) The deadline for the release of the initial supplementary list for judicial review of voters categorized under the “logical discrepancy” classification has lapsed as of midnight on Monday, with the list still not disclosed.

Earlier that evening, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal, Manoj Kumar Agarwal, had informed reporters that the list could potentially be accessible on the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) central server between 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Monday.

However, as of midnight, the list remained unavailable on the ECI’s website. Sources within the CEO’s office suggested that the initial supplementary list might now be published on Tuesday.

“Our dashboard indicates that the judicial review process has concluded for 29 lakh cases. However, I cannot confirm how many names will ultimately be validated after the judicial officers complete their e-signatures. At this moment, I also cannot specify how many names have been marked as excludable,” the CEO stated.

To recap, the final electoral roll in West Bengal, which excludes approximately 60 lakh names referred for judicial review, was published on February 28. According to the Supreme Court’s directive, supplementary lists are to be issued periodically in alignment with the adjudication process, with the first one scheduled for release by midnight on Monday.

Individuals whose names are deemed excludable during this review process will have the opportunity to appeal to the 19 Appellate Tribunals established for this purpose.

The two-phase Assembly elections in West Bengal are slated for April 23 and April 29. Voting will occur across 152 constituencies in the first phase and the remaining 142 constituencies in the second phase.

The results are expected to be announced on May 4.
