Bengaluru, Feb 12 (NationPress) A case of suspected honour killing involving a 21-year-old woman has emerged from the Bengaluru Urban district on Wednesday.

The Hebbagodi police have initiated an investigation into the matter.

According to authorities, the body of Sahana, the victim, was found under mysterious circumstances in Huskur Lake near Anekal town, situated on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Reports suggest that while she was riding pillion on her father Rammurthy's scooter, the vehicle reportedly skidded into the lake.

However, Sahana's boyfriend Nitin claims that her father showed no interest in rescuing her and went directly to the police station.

Nitin has accused Sahana's father of committing honour killing.

Nitin and Sahana had been in a relationship for a year, and her parents discovered their affair just two days prior. Rammurthy had summoned Nitin for a discussion at a friend's location.

During this meeting, Rammurthy allegedly attacked Sahana and insisted that he would never consent to the relationship.

Despite Nitin's mother pleading with him to allow the love marriage, Rammurthy requested two days to consider.

It is suspected that Sahana’s father pushed her into the lake, leading to her death.

Authorities stated that Sahana was determined to marry Nitin, but her family intended to wed her to a relative. Sahana vehemently opposed this and had a heated argument with her father.

The police are currently awaiting the post-mortem report to further their investigation.

Earlier, on February 8, a shocking case was reported in Karnataka's Bidar district where a father fatally attacked his daughter for refusing to end her relationship. Additionally, on January 30, the Gadag District and Sessions Court sentenced four men to death for their involvement in another honour killing case where a couple was brutally murdered due to their inter-caste marriage.
