New Delhi/Bhopal, Feb 28 (NationPress) Madhya Pradesh's Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced on Saturday that plans are underway to establish a Science Park and a nationally recognized research centre at the former Union Carbide factory site in Bhopal.
Following a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi, CM Yadav shared insights into several initiatives being jointly executed by the Centre and the state.
The Chief Minister revealed that an extensive plan has been devised to transform the 87 acres of land into a Bhopal Gas Tragedy Memorial, a Science Park, a Convention Centre, a state-of-the-art laboratory focused on national security, and a national research centre aimed at fostering development.
In his remarks, CM Yadav recalled the Bhopal gas tragedy of December 3, 1984, which resulted in one of the most catastrophic industrial disasters in history, claiming over 25,000 lives over the years. He mentioned that the state government has recently finalized the transportation and disposal of hazardous waste accumulated at the Union Carbide factory.
The Chief Minister expressed his intention to seek guidance from HM Shah regarding the establishment of a grand memorial on the vacant land of the former factory.
Additionally, CM Yadav updated HM Shah on the various events organized by the state government to honor the legacy of Samrat Vikramaditya, whom he regards as one of history's most esteemed rulers.
Addressing the issue of Left Wing Extremism (LWE), CM Yadav stated that robust actions have been taken in the state, particularly in Balaghat district, which has been historically impacted by LWE activities. He discussed the potential organization of the Baiga Mahotsav in the district to facilitate regional development.
In terms of healthcare advancements, the Chief Minister announced the launch of a state-wide vaccination initiative aimed at cervical cancer prevention, which will provide free vaccinations to over eight lakh girls.
Furthermore, he noted that the state government is offering support to farmers facing crop losses due to natural disasters, following necessary assessments.
